When to Seek Help

Seek professional counseling when the problems listed below are persistent and impact your child’s daily living:

  • Sleep problems
  • Change in appetite
  • Aggressive behavior
  • Cruelty to animals
  • Social withdrawal
  • Fearfulness
  • Regressing to earlier stages of development such as bedwetting or soiling
  • Problems with attention
  • Frequent injuries
  • Fire setting
  • Prolonged sadness and/or excessive crying
  • Property destruction
  • Inappropriate sexual behavior
  • Lying and stealing
  • Self-mutilation (e.g., cutting)
  • Concerns about use/abuse of alcohol and/or drugs
  • Non-compliant behavior
  • Academic decline
  • Pulling out hair or eyelashes
